Coconut oil is an amazing moisturizer for our babies’ soft, delicate skin.  Not only does it help keep their skin feeling smooth, but it is also filled with antioxidants that help strengthen skin tissue, which is something that all of us can benefit from.  (Especially all you vain mommies!- just kidding :) )

Coconut oil is great for many things when it comes to our babies.  My top three uses of choice are:

.

Skin Moisturizer

Coconut oil is best used on baby right after a bath.  We’ve only used it a couple of times, but we basically just rubbed a small amount of the oil all over Axel’s body.  It’s an easy process, but I do find it extremely difficult to resist the urge to eat it.  :)   (It actually smells a lot better than it tastes!)

.

Diaper Rash

It’s my personal belief that diaper rash is almost always caused by either diet, or lack of fresh air to the bum.  (In other words, leaving wet diapers on for way too long.)  However, once I discovered what Axel was sensitive to in my diet, coconut oil was helpful in speeding up his bottom’s healing process.  Just dab a little on the rash, and let it sit, preferably without a diaper for a little while.  It really seemed to sooth the pain for our sweet Axel.  Plus, coconut oil is safe to use with cloth diapers, unlike most diaper creams.

.

Cradle Cap

When Axel was 2-3 months old, he got a horrible case of cradle cap.  I freaked out initially, because I thought it meant that I “had” to wash his hair, but after a little research, I discovered the coconut oil solution.  I put a generous amount on his entire scalp, rubbed it in, and let it sit for an hour.  I then used a baby comb with really small teeth, to brush out the gunk.  Trust me, this works wonders, it just takes a little time to get it all out.  He’s never suffered from cradle cap since then.  (I didn’t wash the oil out afterwards either.  It was just extra moisturizer!)

.

So, if you’ve never tried coconut oil, you are missing out, especially if you’re a parent!  There are so many great uses for it, and I’m sure you’ll love it if you try it.  It’s a product that you don’t have to worry about what’s in it.  It’s just coconut!  Enjoy stiffing the jar, it’s hard to stop.  :)
.

Disclaimer:  Some children suffer from an allergy to coconut (Axel doesn’t do well when I eat it, but is fine if it’s applied to his skin), so it’s best to test a small patch of skin before moving forward.  Hopefully, none of your babes will have any problems, but it’s always better to be safe than sorry!

Natural Baby Care – Coconut Oil”

You know, we tried breast milk to no avail- but I’m sure it wouldn’t have helped because the main problem was that he was sensitive to something “in” my milk, lol. I have heard that it can help, though.

Also breastmeil helps with diaper rash too. Can’t get more natural than that : )
